Accessibility statement

Information on the digital accessibility of the website

Introduction

  • The University of Silesia in Katowice undertakes to ensure the accessibility of its website in accordance with the Act of 4 April 2019 on the digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public entities. This accessibility statement applies to the website https://bartlomiej.szypula.us.edu.pl/.
  • Website publication date:
  • Last substantial update of the website:

Digital accessibility status

  • This website is partially compliant with the annex to the Act of 4 April 2019 on the digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public entities due to the non-compliance described below.

Non-accessible content

Non-compliance with the annex

  • English-language publication and presentation titles in the Polish version of the website have been marked with their language. Some remaining foreign-language passages in event descriptions and bibliographic notes still do not have a separate language indication. A screen reader may pronounce these passages using Polish pronunciation (WCAG 2.1, success criterion 3.1.2 — Language of Parts).

Preparation of this accessibility statement

  • Statement preparation date:
  • Last review of the statement:
  • This statement was prepared on the basis of a self-assessment conducted by the public entity.
  • The review used checks of the code, keyboard navigation and layout of the local version of the website, together with WAVE results supplied by the website owner for fourteen pages: seven in Polish and seven in English. WAVE reported 0 errors and 0 contrast errors on all fourteen pages tested. The original alerts concerned possible headings (“Possible heading”), adjacent links to the same address (“Redundant link”), underlined text (“Underlined text”) and links to PDFs (“Link to PDF document”). After the corrections, repeat WAVE results supplied by the owner confirmed the removal of 24 underlined-text alerts on the Polish and English Projects pages and 4 redundant WAVE-link alerts on the Polish and English accessibility statements. At the owner’s request, some direct PDF links were replaced with ResearchGate pages; this does not assess the accessibility of documents available there. Language indications were added to reviewed titles and passages in event descriptions and bibliographic notes. Remaining alerts and external resources require separate manual assessment. Historical results have been retained in the report; no new simultaneous scan of the entire website has been conducted.
  • The WAVE results cover the local pages: About me, Publications, Conferences, Didactics, Projects, Popularization and the Accessibility statement — in both Polish and English. They do not cover the website published on the hosting server. The absence of automated errors does not confirm full compliance. A full screen-reader audit and an assessment of all linked external documents and resources have not been carried out.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • The website can be operated using the keyboard: Tab and Shift+Tab move between interactive elements, Enter activates links, and Enter or Space operates buttons. The “Skip to content” link allows users to bypass the navigation menu.
  • Escape closes an expanded menu and returns focus to the menu button.

Feedback and contact information

  • In case of any problems with the website accessibility, please contact Bartłomiej Szypuła bartlomiej.szypula@us.edu.pl. You can also contact by calling 32 3689 335. In the same way, you can submit requests for sharing inaccessible information and lodge complaints against the lack of accessibility.
  • Everyone has the right to request digital accessibility of the website, mobile app or any of their elements. You can also request sharing information through an alternative access method, e.g. by reading a digitally inaccessible document, describing film content without audio description, etc. The request should contain the data of the person submitting the request, specification of the website or mobile app and method of contact.

Handling accessibility requests and complaints

  • If the person making the request reports the need to obtain information through an alternative access method, they should also determine the convenient method of presenting such information. A public entity should fulfil the request immediately, not later than within 7 days from the date of submitting the request. Should it not be possible to comply with the deadline, the public entity should inform the person making the request about it as soon as possible, whereby the new deadline cannot be later than 2 months from the date of submitting the request. Should it not be possible to provide digital accessibility, the public entity may offer an alternative method of access to information. In the case when the public entity refuses to implement a request to ensure accessibility or an alternative way of access to information, the requestor may submit a complaint concerning the failure to ensure digital accessibility of a website or a mobile app, or of an element of a website or a mobile app. Having exhausted all of the above methods, one may file an application with the Polish Commissioner for Human Rights.
